St. Theresa
October 8, 2023
The first church of the St. Theresa parish in Kihei was blessed in 1928. A new church was built in 1958, but the parish kept expanding to accommodate the growing number of parishioners. The current church was established in 1985. Whew!
The church was named for “The Little Flower of Jesus”, St. Theresa of Lisieux. She entered the Carmelite convent at 15 years old. She died of sickness at only 24. Her promise was to “spend her heaven doing good on earth”. She believed that what matters in life is “not good deeds, but great love”. I have yet to read her autobiography, “The Story of a Soul”. She has been acclaimed as the greatest saint of modern times!
We walked around the grounds for a while. The breeze felt good and the shade under the trees was cool. Aren’t those gigantic utensils so Filipino, though they are usually made of wood?
