St. Anthony of Padua
I just found out that St. Anthony of Padua is often depicted with the baby Jesus in his arms because he had apparitions of the baby Jesus (and of St. Francis of Assisi). Our nephew Lucas’ funeral mass was celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua church in Fresno. As St. Anthony looks after babies and lost souls, may he have guided Lucas to heaven's gates. We have held off paying pilgrimage to St. Anthony in Fresno, saving it for the 100th church we visit.
Back to St. Anthony in Wailuku, Maui: The first mass was celebrated here on 1848. The church and school were founded by the Sacred Hearts fathers again (as so many churches here in Hawaii). Then it was handed over to the Marianists (Society of Mary). Something like that. The thatched church was rebuilt using wood in 1854; then again in 1873, this time in stone.
Chris made a donation for prayers for Lucas when we visited the church.
